You guys make this too easy.

After spending time learning from you guys last year, I entered the local Pinewood Derby races at the local Art Center. I won everything I entered and set track records.

So, this year I learned even more from you and had some great discussions with John and built new cars and helped my girlfriend (and soon-to-be wife) with her car.

We cleaned up. Margie won Unlimited Class and set new track record and best Overall Time. I won Vintage Class and 18+ with new track record and I won best design in Vintage.

Thanks again. Guess it is time to start proxy racing!

That's awesome! Nice work! It's amazing how much good info is on this site. There is loads of information on PWD on the Internet. Yet, none of the other sources back up their claims with real race wins. Buy DD4H products and listen to the advice of everybody on that list on the left. It's that simple.

You should definitely try proxy racing. I did my first NPWDRL race last month. These guys definitely know how to build PWD's. They're fast! It's pretty fun and motivating.

I wish there were more local events. It's a shame people don't know how much fun racing these cars can be.

Nice work Mr. Oxford and soon-to-be Mrs.Oxford!

Looks like a classy event...wine served during the race? We did have drinks served during the first night at nationals this year...from what I remember anyway! Not like the local pack racing. John, please coordinate the sponsor events with our first night of racing again next year. hehe!

There are two cool sub-plots to our day of racing.

Last January they had a Fun Day and set up the track for folks to race and tune their cars. Many knew I was the guy to beat so when my Vintage car was running slow (at the moment) due to some issues, a few guys got all cocky and started trash talking.

After they had left; I sorted out the speed issues.

Before this weekend’s race, one of the guys gave me that “squinty eye, chin up” smug look and said, “See you on the track” and kinda smirked. I had helped him with his car and given him some tips months ago, so I kinda knew what he had.

As my car CRUSHED his, he sat a few seats from me, arms folded, looking down, shaking his head with a boo-boo lip and never acknowledged me.

    Oh well…(smile)

The second story was even better.

The Director of the art center and the sponsor of the race (two different guys) have an after-race grudge match and the sponsor guy has won EVERY race for the past five years and smack talks to the point of public humiliation.

The Director asked me for some help with his car. But the race was the following morning. OK. Let’s do this. In about 45 minutes, we pulled together old parts and polished and balanced and aligned until things rolled as well as we could make it.

As they announced the grudge match, the sponsor guy went off (with microphone) about how he has won for five years and holding up the trophy. It was all in fun but a little over-the-top.

Margie and I just sat in the audience and smiled knowing what was about to go down…

The Director’s new car beat the Sponsors car by about eight feet on a 35 foot track — four times. The Sponsor guy was turning kinda ashen. It was a classic beat-down and the end of an awesome day.

Thought I would add... the Pinewood Derby was part of a big auto show here in the redwoods of northern California. It included an art show of car related stuff. My car last year sorta won everything and set records so they wanted to feature it at the entrance. I have since added the 2015 Vintage trophy and Best Design trophy (not shown) to the display case.

reading over this thread i may have sounded like i was all full of myself and too boastful. sorry if i came across as "all that"... pinewood racing makes me a kid again (at 62) so i guess i get kinda BLAH BLAH BLAH when things happen to me that are cool.

i know it is not that big of a deal to win races against local car builders that have minimal information about making fast cars. And when I race you guys, i expect to get my butt kicked for some time.

so if i came off a bit mouthy, i apologize,
