This was my first year I got the car tuned and weighted to be pretty fast. Also I only joined the forums a couple weeks before the race so I couldn't do everything I learned since we already had started on the car. I used a simple 1/4 inch tall design with tungsten cylinders in the rear. It was very simple and had cog 1 inch in front of the rear wheels. We won our den and 2nd overall. It's not the best looking but it worked. I'm sure we can get more speed next year. It's a 3 wheeled rail rider with canted rears and toe in FDW. I'm going to make a ladder chassis (possibly with fenders) next year.

Way to go! Make sure to keep learning and sharing the newfound knowledge with your son! Enjoy the time spent together doing this as it goes by too fast! Keep teaching him about the fundamentals of pinewood racing....he will be learning the application of physics and not even know it. He will also be learning skills with both his mind and his hands that can be used throughout his life. You guys did your best and that is what counts. I am confident that if you keep reading, next year your best will be even better! :D

Sometimes it is more fun to win with a less than perfect looking car.

    Congratulations.

Congrats! And yes, Bubblegum, those wins with the odd looking cars are more memorable. My brother and step dad still talk about their car from circa 1980 where the weights were made of screws and coins. Their car won the pack, but not before it hit the back stop and sprayed all those coins across the floor. Or the time when they had the cub scout cake baking contest and left the wax paper in between the two layers. Those become the stories you cherish.
