A huge thank you to everyone that helped us out this year! If there was a lesson to be learned, it was “it’s not how many times you fall down, but how many times you get up.” We made a lot of mistakes and had to toss a lot of bodies, but on the day before the race, we finally completed two. Special thank you to Brian who let us test on his track, helped us with tuning, etc.

It was my oldest son’s third and final PWD race as a Cub Scout. He won his pack race every year. My younger son raced also and had the second fastest car. He’s not old enough to be a Cub Scout. He was just racing for fun. He’ll be a Lion next year though!

We had a good time testing and tuning. The wheel edge bumps on the Golden Retriever car made it sound like it was growling as it went down the track, too cool!

    Congrats to the boys, Prozach!

The bumps do make it cool...

The boys I coach, I tell them it has to be jet sounds because their cars are that fast.

Congratulations! Have you guys noticed how the pitch changes as you roll those bumps over your test surface? I think that’s an indication of how true your wheel is running. At least my wheels change pitch as they roll. o_O

So, I wanted to figure out the growling sound when I got home, but I never heard it again. I did a couple test runs at check in, and it was as quiet as a mouse. I think whatever it was must’ve rubbed off.

Typically those bumps are in all scout wheels. I’ve seen cars that make noise, and some that don’t with them. It probably depends on the bend of the front axle. Maybe you are wearing the bumps out a little which is causing it to be quieter, or something steer wise got moved around shifting where the surface of the wheel makes contact with the track.

The glass top on my tuning board really amplifies the sound.
