First, I want to say thank you for adding me to the forum. I’ve found tons of helpful information in the threads here. I found this forum a couple of weeks ago during our first PWD build.

I’m a boy mom. My boys just completed their first Awanas PWD race tonight and I think the fascinating and educational information I found here helped us to build some winners. One took 1st Place Speed at 2.5 seconds and the other took 2nd Place Speed at 2.55 seconds as well as 1st Place for design.

The car that took first place in Speed was cut on my CNC router. I pocketed out the top piece and body piece of car and encased steel key stock (weight choice based on what I had on hand in shop) inside of the car. Hubby and son polished the axles. Ran oil lubrication setup. Extended wheel base, canted rear axle holes placed at balance point. Rules said we could only debur kit wheels so we only polished bores but rubbed graphite into the treads. Tuned car for rail ride. Used decoupage method to decorate car to enable my son to participate in more ways with the build.

The build and the race were much fun. Im sure I still have much to learn but I’m considering more future builds to possibly send in for racing. Does anyone know if there is a women’s league or women’s race? If so, I’m interested in information about it.

    Welcome,

Way to go making all of those great memories with your kids! Spending time working together on projects like these with them teachs SO many different things!

I love the fish design! However, for the next one, remember that aerodynamics does play a roll in how these cars run. The faster the competition, the more important it is to take advantage of everything you can. Keep reading here as there is wealth of information. I spent hundreds of hours reading everything I could and I stilll have a TON to learn.

Got to love those smiling faces

Well - I don’t think there is a ‘womens’ league but I did get beat by Tre’s daughter (think it was Tres daughter ) when she raced pro (my 10 year daughter still gives my grief about it). You should definitely give pro racing a go - and you have given me one more reason to invest in a CNC router.

The Mrs has said she likes her silverware, is very particular about the vacuum cleaner, and has the kitchen organized just so. She has a bias as to which washer/dryer brands to own, likes cuddly things such as kittens (thank goodness we do not have one), and has this obsession with weight awareness. Never once, ever, did I hear she enjoys cutting wheels on her CNC machine. Just sayin'.

Welcome aboard! You've certainly found the right place...

Take a lead from Indy racing and jump in.....dont think there needs to be a separate league, if there was I would enter in it any way as Cherokee Charlene just to race. Oh and I got smoked by a rookie girl just last month unless her dad built it for her?!, doesn't matter though just want to win....dont matter whos on the hill.
