Just wanted to say hi, and introduce myself. Been reading on here for a few weeks, but just now made an account. Tons if great info to be read.
I haven't done PWD since I was in grade school, but now my son is 6 and we'll be doing his first run in about 2 weeks. We are located in OK.
We've got the car bodies mostly done and started messing with wheel and axle prep. I don't recall things being so technical 25 years ago!! :)

Thanks guys. A bit of ocd tendency and my mech engineering background are making it hard to walk away from continually improving on the car components. I'm pretty sure my wife thinks I'm insane. I'm doing everything I can to have my son drill holes, sand stuff, and he even spray painted his car (2 handed style lol). What other steps would be recommended for a 6 yr old to try at on his own? The other stuff I just make him watch and understands why we do it.

Sanding and prepping the wheels and axles. My Cub likes to do this for some reason (because I sure don't), I fear he's a budding masochist!

My kid hates doing wheels and axles. But he likes winning so he does it. :D My mantra for PWD has always been that to win you need to put in the work, so he accepts that it's worth it to go through the hassle of doing some of the tasks that aren't his favorites.

Our compromise is I hold the drill, he runs through the sandpaper grits, and we make fairly quick work of it.

I tell my kid the slower we build the car, the faster it will go.
